Application Methodology
Step No 1: Surface Preparation
The substrate should be completely free of any contaminants, loose material, protrusions or cavities. All oily substances, frost or other moisture should be completely removed. Unsound concrete should be repaired with ReArm range of repair mortar or SBR modified mortar before application.
Step No 2: Fillet
All corners to be provided with a 50 x 50 mm corner fillet with sound concrete.
Step No 3: Priming
AquaArm Tar Primer should be applied at the rate of 4-6 Sq M/Ltr to surfaces by paint brush, roller, or squeeze. The coverage rate for the primer will vary depending on the porosity of the surface being treated.
Allow the primer to dry for a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 8 hours at temperatures of 25°C and above, or until touch dry.
Priming should only be carried out on surfaces which will be covered with AquaArm SBS 3000X the same day.
Step No 4: Membrane Application
Start the installation of all membrane plies from the low point, so that the flow of water is over or parallel to the plies, but never against the laps.
Begin membrane application by unrolling the roll of AquaArm SBS 3000X membrane and aligning the side laps.
Side overlaps should be 75 mm and end laps 100 mm. An additional 300 mm reinforcement strip is suggested at all corners and junctions.
Vertical Application
Cut AquaArm SBS 3000X to length allowing 100 mm for end laps and 75 mm for side laps. Position by peeling back the release paper and applying the self-adhesive face to the prepared surface.
Start at the bottom of the wall and work upwards by progressively removing the release paper in stages on vertical and inclined surfaces. Ensure that all end laps are weathered.
Temporary batten or other support of the membrane is required before backfilling.
Horizontal Application :
Unroll the AquaArm SBS 3000X and place against a marked line. Half of the roll should then be rolled up to the midpoint, the release paper carefully cut, without damaging the AquaArm SBS 3000X membrane and progressively removed from the mid point out to the end of the roll.
This process should be repeated on the other half of the roll. The AquaArm SBS 3000X membrane should be pressed onto the surface to ensure good bonding. The edge and end laps should be rolled to ensure complete adhesion and continuity between the layers. Roll all laps to ensure complete adhesion.
Protection:
The membrane shall be protected immediately after application from damage.
Vertical Areas to be protected by a rot proof asphaltic protection board or, Expanded Polystyrene Board of atleast 26 Kg density or, 8mm dimple sheet of 500Gsm/ SqM. Horizontal areas the membrane to be protected by laying a cement sand screed (>50 mm).
Storage and Shelf Life
- Best before 12 months from the date of manufacture, when stored in cool and dry place at original, unopened condition.
Annotation
Health & Safety
AquaArm SBS 3000X contains a very tacky bitumen compound and during application can adhere to human skin. Bitumen stains can be removed by using a cloth dipped in a very light solvent. In case the affected area is sensitive, like the eye, please contact the company physician for advice.
AquaArm SBS 3000X is not suitable for long term exposure to UV. The membrane should therefore be protected in some way within 3 months of application. When the membrane is to be backfilled such as with basement applications,
AquaArm SBS 3000X should be protected from physical damage
by using AquaArm Drainboard drainage/protection system also.
